This two-trimester course introduces important modern and contemporary texts and explores literary themes addressing contemporary culture, changing work ethics, and the impact of corporations on individuals, families, communities, and the environment. Each unit includes a combination of close reading of fiction, nonfiction, critical essays, short stories, poetry and film, which develops the context for literary study. Some the of texts included in the course are: The Winter of Our Discontent, A Walk in the Woods, The Hotel New Hampshire, Married to the Mouse, and Fast Food Nation.
