Course Description

Sculpture 612 2 Credits

EITHER 2-D OR 3-D FOUNDATIONS OF ART

This course introduces students to concepts, methods, and materials used in three-dimensional art. Concepts covered include mass, void, form, shape, balance, movement, texture, volume, rhythm, relief, abstraction and human proportion. Sculptural methods taught include subtractive, additive, casting, assemblage, and use of armatures. Students will use some of the following materials: wire, wood, plaster, cardboard, clay, and found object. In addition to developing technical skills, students will be challenged to think critically and creatively about descriptive and expressive content. They will be expected to actively discuss their own work and the work of their peers during class critiques and discussions.
