Constitutional Law and the Bill of Rights/Honors

Course Description

Constitutional Law and the Bill of Rights/Honors 127 2 Credits

Students will examine the idea of liberty as it has developed in the United States and issues of rights and responsibilities in a 21st century democracy.  Specifically, constitutional provisions regarding freedom of speech, the rights of the accused and discrimination will be explored, mainly through the use of a case study method.  This rigorously paced course requires above grade level reading and writing skills.  Critical thinking skills are required, especially in analyzing and evaluating Supreme Court rulings.  Tests, quizzes essays and a documents research paper will be required.  Oral presentations are a key requirement, both in frequent group discussions and in a Supreme Court hearing simulation.
