All State Music Ensembles

Congratulations to the ARHS music students who have been named to the 2011 Massachusetts All State ensembles. The students who audition for All-State had to prepare a Western District Audition in November for membership in the District Level ensembles of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA). The top players in each instrument section are recommended on to audition for the All-State ensembles. Each player has to prepare a specified piece, scales, and sight-read music at the audition. The required pieces are roughly equivalent to college/conservatory audition pieces. They are competing against musicians from all over Massachusetts. The auditions are about 15 minutes long and the students have to perform their pieces, scales and sight-reading in front of an adjudicator.

In related news, we want to congratulate Carson Marshall on violin, and Sarah Martini on contrabass, who were nominated and then accepted to the All-Eastern Festival, based on last year’s All-State auditions. Acceptance to All-Eastern is a very high honor for these students.
