ARPS Teacher Sean Smith Honored with 2008 APA Pre-Collegiate Teaching Award
 
Amherst Regional Schools Latin teacher Sean Smith is the national recipient of the 2008 Excellence in Teaching at the Precollegiate level award, awarded by the Joint Committee on the Classics in American Education of the American Philological Association.  Mr. Smith received this award at the APA annual meeting in Chicago in January.  Sean Smith has been a teacher of Latin in the regional school district, at both the middle school and the high school, since 1984.  A distinguished graduate of AmherstRegionalHigh School, the University of Pennsylvania (bachelor’s degree), and the University of Massachusetts (masters degree), he has earned the reputation in our community as a truly outstanding educator and we are proud to honor him for this major achievement.  The opening remarks made at the awards ceremony by one of Mr. Smith's former students are attached.

Legislative Action Committee Reminder
 
The Legislative Action Committee will meet at 3:45 next Monday, February 11, in the Middle School cafeteria.  This will be a time to finish writing the legislative platform for presentation to the School Committee.  All are welcome to attend!
