Introduction to Digestion

The digestive system is made up of a group of organs that prepare the food we eat for its use within the body. The process, known as digestion, takes place in a 9 meter tube, often called the digestive tract. It takes an average meal 24 hours to travel through the digestive tract of your body.

Digestion breaks food into very small pieces, most of which are energy rich molecules. These energy rich molecules are small enough to pass through the wall of the digestive tube into the rest of the body.
