How to find a science article in Facts.Com.

How to find a science article in eLibrary Science

Three Electronic Sources for Articles on your Novelle Applications:

Facts.com:  from home Go to the Today's Science home page on Facts.com or try HS Library  Username: AmherstRHS    Password: Facts

1.     Click on the icon—a magnifying glass over a sheet of paper.

2.     Scroll down

3.     Open “Today’s Science”

4.  Browse the topics on the first page or search for a topic of your choice.

eLibrary Science (How to find a science article in eLibrary Science)

1.     Click on the icon—a red and green computer disk

2.     Click on “eLibrary Science”

3.     Click on “Continue”

4.     Look at the bar in the center of your screen.  Remove all checks except “Magazines.”

5.     Enter your topic and search

InfoTrac

1.     Click on the icon—a magnifying glass over a computer

2.     Click “Proceed”

3.     Scroll down for options. 

Suggestions:

                    “General OneFile”

                    “General Reference Center Gold”

                    “Student Edition”

                    “Junior Edition K-12”  (eliminates some more difficult articles)

                    “Kids InfoBits”  (easier reading)

1) Is the article mostly about science and the  target words?

2) Am I interested in it? Choose wisely.

2) Can I understand what I read? Is the article at my reading level? Not too easy or hard!

3) Do a print Preview: Is it too short (< 2 pages) or too long (>15 pages).? Save your Tree Karma!

Ask your teacher if you have doubts about the article.
