Health / Dental Benefits

Effective July 1, 2018, the Town of Amherst will be replacing Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (HPHC) and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) with the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA) for the medical insurance. MIIA uses the BCBSMA network of providers. 

It is important to note that while the District and APEA are currently in negotiations, this information is not an attempt to prejudice the outcome of those negotiations, rather to inform you of the changes made by the Amherst-Pelham Health Claims Trust Fund.
 
All active employees will be required to complete a new enrollment form for coverage effective July 1, 2018. Regardless of who your carrier is currently, you will still need to complete an enrollment form in order to secure coverage with MIIA for health insurance effective July 1, 2018.

Please have your enrollment forms submitted to Jennifer Ortiz, Human Resources Administrator, no later than May 1, 2018. Employees will receive a new medical card at the end of June 2018 and they can begin using it July 1st with no interruption. Please discard your old card and show your providers your new card when you have services.

Below is an HMO and PPO comparison sheet that compares the current plans to the MIIA plans. This summary is helpful as it is a side by side comparison and it will give you an idea of what is changing. 

Open Enrollment Meetings

Open enrollment meetings have been scheduled for the dates, times and locations listed below. All family members are welcome to attend. Feel free to attend any session that works with your schedule. The presentation lasts for about 20 minutes and there will be representatives from MIIA and BCBSMA available to answer your individual questions. There will be educational materials and enrollment forms at these sessions and assistance will be provided. 

The School sessions (highlighted below) will be held in the Gymnasium with the exception of the High School and Middle School Sessions which will be held in the Cafeteria. 

Your completed enrollment forms can be dropped off at any information session or by returning them to Jennifer Ortiz in the Human Resources Department.  All enrollment forms are due no later than Tuesday, May 1, 2018.
