Although the Massachusetts State Frameworks for English Language Arts
include Media Standards, this is content shared by all disciplines,
rather than being unique to the English Language Arts. The teaching of
Media is crucially important for 21st century students, and
happens in Math, Social Studies, Science, Technology, and English
Language Arts classrooms. We include these here as Standards Not Covered because they are not covered solely in the domain of the English Language Arts classroom.
GENERAL STANDARD 26: Analysis of Media*
Students will identify, analyze, and apply knowledge of the
conventions, elements, and techniques of film, radio, video, television,
multimedia productions, the Internet, and emerging technologies, and
provide evidence from the works to support their understanding. (See also Standards 17, 18, 24, 27, and the Theatre Standards of the Arts Curriculum Framework.)
GENERAL STANDARD 27: Media Production*
Students will design and create coherent media productions (audio, video, television, multimedia, Internet, emerging technologies) with a clear controlling idea, adequate detail, and appropriate consideration of audience, purpose, and medium. (See also Standards 18, 24, 26, and the Theatre Standards of the Arts Curriculum Framework.)
