Mission Statement:

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Human Resources of the Amherst, Pelham, and Amherst-Pelham Regional School Districts is committed to serving as a resource by responding to the continually changing needs of our organization and community.  We are dedicated to building and supporting the strong infrastructure made possible by a diverse, talented and engaged workforce. This commitment creates a culture that values all employees, promotes diversity and equity, and results in a healthy professional environment that fosters respect for diverse perspectives.   We believe that excellence is achieved by being proactive, responsive, consistent, and innovative while ensuring compliance with federal and state law.

To that end, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Human Resources provides quality leadership and guidance in the development, implementation, and administration of human resource-related policies, practices, and procedures in a professional, caring, and consistent manner.  This promotes an equitable and positive environment that supports growth and enrichment for all district employees  and encourages balanced attention to work and personal life issues.   

Vision Statement:

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Human Resources is a model HR organization that inspires all employees to realize their full potential by providing high quality service in  the areas of talent management, recruitment and retention, and promotion of innovative ideas.  

Staffed by knowledgeable and capable individuals who promote equity and provide fair, responsible leadership and guidance throughout the organization, the Human Resources office is recognized for being both responsive to the changing needs of the community it serves and for inspiring all employees to reach their professional goals.

Primary Duties:

Assistant Superintendent of Diversity, Equity and Human Resources – Doreen Cunningham x 1803

  • Oversee collective bargaining negotiations and labor relations
  • Employee grievances
  • Track student enrollments, projections, and trend analysis
  • Oversee staff recruitment and retention
  • Project and track district staffing
  • Create personnel statistical reports for Federal and State compliance
  • Review Criminal Records Checks
  • Oversee licensing and waivers (DESE certification)
  • Oversee professional development related to social justice and equity
  • Build opportunities for equitable access and restorative practices throughout the district

Human Resources Administrator – Jennifer Ortiz x 1895

  • Employment application and hiring process
  • Including posting, advertising, hiring and on-boarding candidates
  • Assist in MA DESE certification 
  • Employee benefits and retirement 
  • Develop certification programs
  • Staff reporting/EPIMS compliance

Diversity and Equity Specialist– Damany Gordon x 1872

  • Assist with employment of diverse candidates through the application and hiring process
  • Recruit and hire substitutes
  • Collect employee data for MA DESE EPIMS staffing report
  • Work with colleges/universities to develop programs for paraeducators
  • Oversee restorative practices

Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent – Sasha Figueroa x 1807

  • Assist with new hire intakes
  • Assist with MA DESE certification
  • Schedule interviews 
  • Assist in development and maintenance of employee databases
  • Assist with substitute coordination
