Policy CBC: Superintendent of Schools: Appointment and Responsibilities

The Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee and the Amherst and Pelham School Committees, the latter two cooperatively through the Union #26 School Committee, shall jointly appoint a Superintendent of Schools. Such appointment shall be confirmed in a written Contract of Employment which shall include terms and conditions of employment.

The Superintendent of Schools shall serve as:

  1. The executive officer of the Committees
  2. The chief educational advisor to the Committees
  3. The accountable officer for all personnel in the school districts
  4. The liaison officer between the Committees and all personnel of the school districts, state agencies and local community groups or agencies

A written job description, outlining the qualifications and responsibilities of the Superintendent of Schools will be developed by the School Committees and periodically reviewed by them.

The Superintendent is designated a managerial and confidential employee in regards to collective bargaining as defined in Chapter 150E of Mass. legislation.
