Policy BEDA: Notification of Meetings

As required by law, a minimum of 48 hours advance notice, excludingSaturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays, will be given for any meeting ofthe School Committee, including all subcommittee meetings.  The noticefor each meeting will contain the date, time, and place of the meetingand will include the agenda or a listing of topics that the Chairreasonably anticipates will be discussed at the meeting.  Notice will befiled with the Town Clerk and posted as required by the Open MeetingLaw.  (MGL 30A)  Notification of regular meetings, notification of achange in a regular meeting time or place, and notification of a specialmeeting will be filed with the Town Clerk at least 48 hours in advance,as required by law.

The only exception permitted to the requirement for posting themeeting 48 hours in advance of the meeting is in case of emergency,which the law defines as “a sudden, generally unexpected occurrence orset of circumstances demanding immediate action.”

Notification of each Regional School Committee meeting will be filedwith the Town Clerks of all member towns at least 48 hours in advance. 

An executive session of the School Committee must first convene in anopen session meeting of the School Committee for which due notice hasbeen given, except in case of emergency.  (See Policy BEC .)

A schedule of the planned regular meetings of the School Committeefor the upcoming months will be published periodically and posted onlineto inform the public about the dates, times, and places of the upcomingregular meetings of the School Committee.
