Mothercraft
Mrs. May Bliss Dickinson Kimball was the founder of Mothercraft. It was founded in 1935. Mothercraft was founded on East St. common. Mothers could join Mothercraft. Mothercraft was a club for mothers to teach their children to grow up to be fine women like themselves. Knitting, crocheting, gardening, cooking and dressing formally were but a few of the skills mothers taught their daughters.
A mother’s garden was planted in the 20th century by the Amherst Women’s club to honor the memory of Mothercraft. It was a living gift to Mrs. May Bliss Dickinson Kimball for founding the worldwide organization called "Mothercraft," in memory of her Amherst mother, Mrs. Poole. Mrs. May Bliss Dickinson planted an evergreen on East St. common to honor the memory of her mother.
