Bridget, Simone and Jayson
The Boston Globe reported that in the years 1786 and 1787 the main meeting house for the men involved in the Shays’ Rebellion was in Pelham. Though that was the main meeting house another meetinghouse for the men involved was the Dickinson- Baggs Tavern. The Shays’ Rebellion was caused by the farmers having to pay higher taxes than the other citizens in the area. After, some time the farmers couldn’t afford to pay the higher taxes. The farmers made the decision to protest against high taxes. So, on January 25, 1787, Shays and his men went into Springfield to capture the federal arsenal (a place where you would store weapons) named Smith & Wesson.
Abraham Lincoln a governor[ check this ] stopped them from completing their task. Most of the men were excused from their punishments. Daniel Shays was sentenced to death but he escaped and headed for Vermont. Shays was excused from his punishment a year later.
