Underground Railroad

There are some houses that are thought to have been stations on the Underground Railroad. One of them is the Dickinson Baggs Tavern on the corner of South East and Main Streets. Up until the early 20th century there was at least one tunnel under the building. There was an anti slavery environment in Amherst.
