1905 - Women Workers at the Factory go on Strike

Why?

• 1905 - Big Employee Shortage
• The company's choices
  - Create a factory run entirely by Japanese
  - Sell out to a foreign corporation
  - Go into bankruptcy
• The company chose choice #1
• They planned to build an electric powered factory in East Amherst
• To start, one Japanese man was brought in 
• The women workers saw it as a  threat to their jobs
• So they went on strike

What Happened After?

• Company can't hire enough more workers
• Orders back up
• Japanese man laid off
• Plans for all-Japanese factory abandoned
• Women return to work
• Company still doesn't return to normal
• Goes out of business, 1935
