Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War

    The Civil War was a turning point in U.S. history. The war started when the South wanted independence. On April 12, 1861, the war started, and it ended on April 9th, 1865. It ended when the Confederates surrendered. The most people who fought in the war died in Gettysburg. The amount of people who died in the war in the South was 22,500, and in the North the amount was only 17,500. The Civil War made many people lose their lives and families.

    Abraham Lincoln was involved in the Civil War. He eventually signed the Emancipation Proclamation which banned slavery. The Confederates were in the South and they were for slavery. The Union was the North and they were against slavery. Lincoln was a Republican and he was the head of the Union Army.
