Town Hall  History 

 1727-First Amherst settlement

1774- Strong House Built

1775- Amherst participated in the Revolutionary War

1786- March 26th Amherst was made into a town by the state.

1812- Mr. Webster came to town to work on his dictionary

1821 Amherst College was built

1830- December 10th Emily Dickinson was born            

1868 - Palmer's Block (the site of our town hall) was built

1888- Palmer's block burned down in a blizzard

1889- March 5th Town Hall Building Committee began

1889- March 30th building committee buys Palmer's block

1890-October 24th committee accepts Town Hall

1890-November 8th town accepts Town Hall

1890-November 18th Town Hall opens

1962-1963-Inside changed a lot
