William Fenno Pratt
William Fenno Pratt was an interesting architect and one of the best in the Connecticut Valley. William F. Pratt was born in the town of Northampton, Massachusetts on January 15, 1814. He was one of seven children and the son of the famous architect, Thomas Pratt. Sadly, five of the children died before the age of 30 leaving Pratt with only one sibling left, his brother Charles. When Pratt was 16, he quit school to follow his dream of becoming an architect. He worked with his brother Charles and father on becoming a superior architect and a superior architect he became. Some years later Pratt became the leading architect in the Connecticut Valley. His first drawing was of the First Congregational Church in Easthampton. One of Pratt’s greatest architectural achievements was designing the Northampton City Hall. In 1868, Pratt’s father died of an unknown cause. In terrible twist of fate, Pratt’s spectacular business went bankrupt in 1878 and sold to Henry P. Hayden Jr. William Fenno Pratt died on March 30, 1900. He died of usual causes and his last days were spent in the Queen Anne’s House. In Pratt’s life, he accomplished an amazing number of buildings he designed, which are 175. Pratt was an astonishing architect and one of the best.
