Gib's Personal Life

Thomas Gilbert Dickinson, known as Gib, was a healthy, energetic child. He was born to Austin and Susan Dickinson on August 1, 1875, and was the third child in the family.  Gib was loved for his blond hair and blue eyes.

During his early years in the Evergreens, his brother Edward, sister Martha and him would put on plays for the neighbors. Another daily routine was raiding the pantry with their Aunt Emily.

Then in 1883 something tragic happened. While playing in a swimming hole on September 27, a Thursday, Gib caught a fever. He had been playing with his friend Kendall Emerson. One week later the doctor diagnosed him with typhoid fever.
