Charles Green was born on November 19, 1876 in New Jersey.
He attended University of Connecticut, then married May E. Coombs. Together they had 3 children; 2 sons and 1 daughter.
He was a devoted member of the First Congregational Church.
He also worked for the Hartford Courant.
Charles Green was the first director of the Jones Library, from 1921 to 1954.
Before he became a librarian in Jones Library, Charles Green was a librarian in a Connecticut library. But we’re not sure what library.
Charles Green had a hobby of creating scrapbooks of things in the Jones Library.
He was the director through the depression and World War II, and he created a scrapbook recording every person who served in World War II in Amherst.
A change during when he was director was that the auditorium was removed.
Author of Emily Dickinson’s biography.
Personal friend of Robert Frost.
Charles Green collected Robert Frost’s works, so Jones Library became the first collector of Robert Frost’s works. Cool, huh?
Retired June 30, 1954.
Died at 91 years of age.
