The Stockbrige House 2002

by Jun & Kyra

UMass closed the second floor of the Stockbridge house in 1999. The two open rooms on the second floor can accommodate 10-15 people.  The faculty  club is also called the  Boltwood/Stockbridge house.  The home is a wood-frame structure located on Stockbridge Road that is actually comprised of two buildings, one of which is a separate homestead. The Stockbridge House is considered the oldest home in Amherst, Massachusetts.

The Stockbridge House was built in 1728 by Samuel Boltwood of Hadley. It was originally located  near the present site of Lederle Graduate Research Center, but was moved to its current location in 1972. In 1934 the house was fixed up by President Hugh Potter Baker who turned it into the Faculty Club.
