Computer Networking II

Computer Networking II 2 Credits

PREREQUISITE: A GRADE OF C+ OR BETTER IN COMPUTER NETWORKING I.

This one trimester course is designed to be the second step in studying computer networking. Students will continue to learn how to design, install and maintain internetworks. Topics covered include: Review of the OSI model layers 1-7, Wide Area Networks (WANS), routers, using a router, router components, router startup and setup, router configurations, IOS, TCP/IP and IP addressing , RIP and IGRP routing protocols and network troubleshooting. Students will learn how to install and configure switches and routers in multi-protocol networks using local and wide area networks (LANS and WANS), provide Level 1 troubleshooting service, and improve network security and performance. Review and continued study of the OSI model is another objective. Additionally, instruction and training are provided in the proper care, maintenance, and use of networking software tools and equipment. This course places particular emphasis on the study of routers, the critical devices that make the Internet and intranets work.
