Child Study I

Child Study I 762A 2 Credits
Child Study II 762B 2 Credits

PREREQUISITE: STUDENTS MUST MEET WITH THE INSTRUCTOR AND COMPLETE A PROCESS TO DEMONSTRATE READINESS TO WORK WITH CHILDREN IN A PRESCHOOL SETTING. A MEETING WILL BE SCHEDULED IN MAY FOR ALL STUDENTS WHO REQUEST CHILD STUDY.

Children are part of everyone’s life, whether one is a sibling, babysitter, neighbor, camp counselor, daycare provider, parent, aunt, uncle, teacher or doctor. Child Study provides the opportunity to learn about the development of young children while participating in a program that provides preschool children with activities that will enhance their learning through creative play and creative writing. A final project is required on a particular aspect of child development that comes from your own interests. Students will complete the project through interviewing, videotaping and observing the preschoolers’ development and doing research on a final project. This class will be based in the preschool classroom.

Child Study I: (one trimester) is an introduction to guiding children’s behavior while providing learning activities.

Child Study II: (one trimester) provides the opportunity for students to plan and implement a program of learning for children while continuing to practice guiding behavior.

Additional study: Students wishing to continue to build skills and knowledge in early childhood education should discuss options with the instructor.
