Students will explore the styles and origins of the music that has been a part of the many different cultures found in North, Central and South America.  The course will help students discover the background of various cultures, major influences on the different areas (i.e., African, European, Native Indian) and the musical growth of the various areas.  Music to be discussed could include:  Calypso, Soca, Reggae, Salsa, Merengue, Samba, Jazz/Rhythm & Blues, Musical Theater, Motown/Disco/Rap/Hip-Hop, Rock & Roll.
