LAB SCIENCE COURSE

PREREQUISITES: BIOLOGY AND CHEMISTRY

This course is a study of the form and function of major systems of the human body. It will provide a solid background for students interested in the medical and health fields as well as those just interested in understanding how the human body works. We will start with a quick review of cell biology and biochemistry and then begin an in depth study of the anatomy and physiology of histology and the skin, the skeletal system and articulations, muscular system, nervous system and special senses, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, endocrine system and reproductive system. As we study these systems students will gain a strong understanding of the related health issues, current events and disease processes such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.  Students will be required to work independently outside of class reading, reviewing and studying course material. Evaluation will consist of tests, quizzes, small research assignments, lab activities and practicals and a course notebook of completed assignments. This is a laboratory course that requires extensive animal tissue dissection.
