Science MCAS - General Information
Requirements
It is a graduation requirement in Massachusetts that all high school students pass a Science or Technology MCAS, starting with the class of 2010. Students must earn a scaled score of at least 220 on one of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Introductory Physics, or Technology/Engineering. Most ARHS students will take the Biology MCAS in 10th grade.*
The following courses are designed to prepare students for the Science MCAS:
For Biology:
- 9th Grade: Ecology & Environmental Science, or Ecology/Honors & Environmental Science/Honors, followed by
- 10th Grade: Biology or Biology/Honors
For Chemistry:
- 9th Grade: Ecology & Environmental Science, or Ecology/Honors & Environmental Science/Honors, followed by
- 10th Grade: Chemistry/Honors
*Note: Students who plan to take the 3-trimester AP Biology course in 11th grade will take Honors Chemistry in 10th grade. As a result, these students will take the Chemistry MCAS.
