NOTE: THIS COURSE IS NOT OPEN TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE TAKEN CRIMINAL JUSTICE.
In examining crime in the United States, the course focuses on the adult and juvenile justice systems, the role of police and the corrections system and punishments, including the death penalty. This course analyzes the nature of criminal behavior, the causes of crime and types and scopes of crime. Some units address sensitive issues, such as rape. Oral participation in classroom discussions is expected. Students will write several papers on a variety of criminal justice topics, as well as having several quizzes and tests.
