Success in Oslo!! ARHS April Norway Exchange students presented their environmental project to the U.S. Embassy in Oslo; one audience member from a leading Norwegian environmental organization said it was the best presentation of this kind he had seen. They have created a project on local agriculture whose mission statement is: To use farming a plot of community land to increase awareness of the environmental benefits of local food, and to provide opportunities for student involvement by reaching out to local schools and creating a platform for similar projects in the future.
Their project has three major components: ICE (implementation, connections, education). They will create a demonstration project of a local organic community garden focused on youth to promote the beneficial impact on climate change as well as other positive outcomes of buying/eating local food. They will connect to key community resources related to local food and community gardening as well as build relationships with existing school projects. Education is the third essential goal to spread awareness and knowledge, and thus, inspire others to create similar projects and commit to local food.
