Senior Mailing

On the first day of school, all seniors received a thick packet of information about the college application process. The packet includes the following documents:

August, 2007

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians of the Class of 2008:

Congratulations on earning senior status!  We hope you have enjoyed your summer and are now ready to return full of energy and enthusiasm for your senior year.

For those of you planning to continue your education after high school graduation, there will be the additional challenge of the college admission process this fall and winter.  The complexity of this process will vary depending on your particular plans, but everyone can profit by doing some early thinking and planning.

The enclosed information sheets will help you in that process.  PLEASE READ THEM carefully!  They contain a tremendous amount of important information, some of which reflects procedural changes we are adopting this year.  Pay special attention to the early September registration deadline for the October SAT.  Please also take some time to go to www.arps.org/hs/seniors and begin working on the College Conference Questionnaire thoughtfully, including the writing sample.  You must complete the questionnaire online in its entirety before you can make your appointment for a fall college planning conference with me.  Your responses provide significant information that will also be used by your counselor to write recommendations in support of your college application.  Completing the student questionnaire is not optional.  We cannot do an effective job of presenting you to colleges without this critical input from you.  An on-line form is also available for parent/guardians which provides helpful information for counselors working with college bound seniors, but completion of the parent section is optional.

Seniors –After you have completed and submitted your college questionnaire online, schedule an appointment with me for September, October or November to review and discuss your post-secondary plans.  You must make an appointment in person with Mrs. Tracy in room 107, not by phone.   Parents or guardians are strongly encouraged to attend these conferences, so please check their schedules before you make the appointment.  The whole business of college admission has become quite complicated; its processes and procedures often seem overwhelming.  By working together we can make the college admission process less stressful and even enjoyable!  Please do not hesitate to call on any of us in the Guidance Office if we can offer assistance or answer questions for you.

Sincerely

Myra Ross, College Advisor
