At 6:50 this morning, a HS teacher reported hearing a pulsing sound coming from inside a student locker.

We could not afford to assume that the sound was meaningless.

So, we evacuated the building and called the police.

While the police investigated, students were directed to Community Field, which is directly across from the high school. Under the supervision of the ARHS faculty and staff, they waited there for the better part of an hour.

At approximately 8:10, the police determined that the cause of the sound was a portable IPod speaker system. It had apparently been on all night and the battery had run down.

At this point, students were directed to return to the building and proceed directly to their first period class. Once everyone was settled, I went on the PA system to explain the situation.

My sense is that, right now, at 8:42 am, the school’s routine has resumed.
