Dear ARHS Parents and Guardians,

The purpose of this letter is to apprise you of a situation that occurred on the grounds of the high school this morning.

All of this information was shared with the student body during their 2nd period classes.

This morning, an individual was observed behind the school by the track waving what appeared to be a gun. A faculty member observed this individual and called 911. The police responded and apprehended the individual. He is now in police custody. He was also found to have two knives in his possession.

The police have determined that what the individual was waving was an air soft pellet gun. In appearance, this looks like a gun.

We were able to quickly identify the individual and determine he was not a student at the high school.  He, however, did have friends both here and at the middle school. We have interviewed and searched the high school friends and determined that they presented no threat. 

As a precaution, we held all students in their first period classes until we could confidently determine that the apprehended individual was acting alone. The Amherst Police reassured us that this was an accurate assessment.
