The exemption from the third trimester final exams is designed to provide incentive for students to maintain a responsible academic record through their final term at Amherst Regional High School and to avoid "senioritis". Students who meet the criteria will be exempted from taking final exams at the end of the third trimester. The exemption, however, . does not pertain to final projects, papers or other assessments.
To be exempt from final exams, a student must meet ALL of the following criteria:
The student must have an average of B minus (or higher) in the class s/he is requesting an exemption as of May 21, 2010, a grade that meets honor roll standards.
The student may have no more than 6 absences in the class as of May 21, 2010.
The student may have no unexcused absences in the class.
For two and three trimester courses, students may not have more than 6 absences in the third trimester.
Students attending an exchange program affecting the third trimester will not qualify for exemptions.
The student may not be failing (receiving a grade of F) in any class or have a U (unsatisfactory) in any directed study in their T3 Progress Report.
If the student meets the above criteria for eligibility, it is the student’s choice whether or not she/he wishes to take the exam. However, teachers are welcome to offer guidance if s/he feels it would be advantageous for the student to take the exam.
1. The grade calculated on Friday, May 21st is NOT a final grade. It simply determines eligibility for this exemption. A student’s grade may drop below a B minus after this date.
2. Since this is a negotiated privilege, all types of absences will affect your eligibility (family trips, medical, excused, college visits, field trips, exchanges, etc.).
3. Discipline infractions may affect your eligibility to be exempted from exams.
4. Seniors are required to attend all classes through May 28th.
