What’s new on the ARHS website?

Morning Announcements

Morning Announcements are now stored in a database. To see the announcements for the current day, go to "News" on the top menu bar, and then choose "Morning Announcements." Here is the direct URL to the announcements, should you wish to bookmark it:
http://www.arps.org/hss/MorningAnnouncements.jsp

Once you get to the announcements, you have a few options. You can use the menu bar at the top to move to announcements for the previous day or the next day, (if they have been entered). You can continue to hit the "Previous Day" or "Next Day" buttons to look at any desired day.

If you are looking for a certain topic--say you need to know when the PSAT will be given--then try out the search feature. Just type the word "PSAT" into the text field, hit the button that says "Search Announcements" and you will find all announcements that have contained that word.

My ARHS

This new features allows you to customize a web page to display exactly the information that you want, all on one page. Your settings will be associated with a particular computer, so you should set up your page on the computer that you use most often. Or, you may choose to set it up twice--once at work and once at home.

There are four different areas where you can make choices about what to include on your page:

Since this is a new feature, it is still in the testing stages. If you notice something that you think could work a little better, please let us know. We have already made several changes in response to parent feedback. For example, the contact list now displays a link to a teacher’s website, if it exists, in addition to the teacher’s contact information. The form for editing settings has also been improved due to a parent’s comment.

So far, about 300 people have created a customized page with this feature. Interested? Start a page for My ARHS on this computer

Calendar

We have always had a month at a glance calendar on the site, but this year you can choose to filter the calendar for a particular category. So, if you want to see just the College Dates, you can choose that option from the upper left corner of the calendar page. After you select your category, hit the GO button and the calendar will reload. There is also an option to see the entire school year all on one page. Choose "Year at a Glance" from the bottom of the monthly calendar.

Our upgraded calendar also features information links with many of the calendar items. So, if you see something about registering for the SATs on the calendar, click on that and you will go to the College Board’s site where you can in fact register for the test.

Newsletter

Last spring, we began displaying the monthly newsletter, Hurricane Highlights, on the web site. This newsletter will no longer be mailed home to families with internet access. You can see past issues of the newsletter also:

Team Pages

There is now a separate web page for each interscholastic sport during a season. The sport’s page gives the name of the head coach and also shows the schedule for upcoming games for varsity and junior varsity teams. Links to each team’s page can be found on our Sports page.

Site Index

Our web site now has a site index, accessible from the navigation menu at the bottom of any content page. The site index is organized alphabetically and gives a direct link to all content pages and documents housed on our site. Suppose you need to get a message to a student during the school day. You might not be sure where to find information about this. If you check under "M" in the site index, you will find a link called "Messages and Deliveries to Students." This information is housed on the content page for the Main Office, but you might not have realized that. So, the site index gives you a different way to look for information.

Bread Crumbs

All content pages and documents now show a trail of bread crumbs, to help you navigate. If you are not familiar with the term, bread crumbs look like this:

Home >> Offices >> Dean

You can see the route to travel to get to a particular page, and you can find your way back from it.

Update Messages

All content pages and documents now contain a date stamp at the bottom of the page to let you know when they were last updated. If you find something that appears to be out of date, please contact the webmaster.
