Important Notice: We will be holding a tag sale on the town common on Saturday, May 24th, from 6:30AM to 2:00. Please come to Thursday's meeting to sign up for a time.
Our Cause:
From 1964-1992, Texaco oil company dumped millions of gallons of toxic chemicals and crude oil into the Ecuadorian Amazon, which continues to contaminate this region of the Amazon even today. This is one of the most bio-diverse environments in the world, and its plants, animals, and people are being destroyed. But you can help.
Esperanza International Inc. is a non-profit organization and student- run high school group devoted to improving the lives of the people of the Ecuadorian Amazon who have been affected by the oil contamination. We do everything we can to help, and this year that includes many new projects solicited from the affected people we talked to during our 2006 trip.
Our Goals (07'-08'):
- Raise funds for a medical clinic in La Joya de los Sachas, Ecuador
- Raise awareness about problems of oil contamination in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
- Raise awareness about issues of environmental justice in Massachusetts, the U.S., and around the world.
