The bulb sale has begun!

Students have envelopes with order forms and Bulb selling instructions

Orders due September 30th! Bulbs will be delivered to students for delivery to customers 2-3 weeks after this.

Direct questions to Mr. Price

How to plant a daffodil!

Daffodils are the essence of spring and are among the easiest, most reliable flowers to grow. Plant the bulbs in fall, and in the spring they'll turn into a sunny yellow explosion.

How to Grow Daffodils:

Plant Daffodil bulbs in the fall. Plant about two to four weeks before the ground freezes to allow the roots to develop underground. Plant them 6-8 inches deep. Space plants three to six inches apart. Note, that Daffodils will tolerate some crowding.

Sprinkle a little bulb fertilizer in the hole during planting. For established beds, spread the fertilizer on top of the soil. You can work it in lightly, but you risk damaging the bulbs.

As natives to woodland areas, Daffodils will grow well in shade to full sun.

Amherst in Bloom!

Be a part of it!
Dolly Jolly of the 250th Anniversary Celebration Committee presented a plan to plant 10,000 daffodils this fall to bloom in May 2009, in celebration of that month’s “neighborhoods” theme. She requested
permission to have them planted by local landscapers in the following parks and commons:
Sweetser Park, Kendrick Park, the Town Common, East Street Common, under the Katsura tree near the
East Street Common, South Amherst Common and Cushman Common.
Select board VOTED: unanimously to approve the request.
