Important Information about A.R.M.S. Clubs:

·         All clubs are from 2:30-3:30 pm.

(unless otherwise specified by club leader)

·         At 3:30, students go to the Late Bus Waiting Room with a pass, unless they have permission to walk home.

·         The Late Bus leaves the middle school at 4:00 pm.

·         Some clubs require regular attendance; others are run on a week to week drop-in basis. Please read club descriptions carefully.

·         All clubs have a minimum enrollment of 5 members and some have a maximum enrollment number. -see club description

·         This schedule is for the fall & winter, 2007.  An updated schedule will come out in 2008.

Science Fair Club

Mondays AND Thursdays, C-1

Until the end of April- starts Oct 11

Ms. Welborn

Students must come 2x a week until the end of April.  This is

a requirement for the club. Research may be presented at the

Regional and possibly the state science fair.  Limited to 8th

graders only.  Students from any 8th grade team can join.

 

 

 


               Jazz Band

                            Mr. Messier

An after school extra curricular ensemble for the purpose of enhancing the instrumental program. Students must be currently enrolled in a music ensemble in order to be eligible for the band. Auditions for the MS Jazz Band will be held Oct. 10th, 11th and 12th after school.  Sign ups and audition materials will be available outside of my office (Mr. Messier) beginning Monday Oct. 1st.

 

Eligibility requirements:

For Melodic instruments: (woodwinds,brass and strings) You must be in good standing (as decided by your teacher) in one of the middle school music ensembles (band, orchestra or chorus) in order to audition. 

For Rhythm instruments: (guitar, bass, drumset, percussion)

 


 

 

Drill Team (STOMP)

Mondays, C-12A

Drill Team (STOMP) is a group that gives students the opportunity to learn how to make rhythmic beats by clapping and stomping together as one. The Drill Team teaches students about commitment, patience and teamwork. The group also gives students the chance to learn how to learn new patterns through creative movements. Students who are involved should be willing to give a complete effort to the team. We look forward to a successful year with our new members.

Ballroom Dancing

Ms. Wilbur & Mr. Odess-Gillet (UMass. Ballroom Dancing Team)

 

We'll learn a variety of dance styles--possibly including cha cha, swing, rumba, tango, waltz, foxtrot, or salsa depending on the interest of our club members.  We'll be focusing on developing skills of leading, following, and adding personal style.  There will also be opportunity for developing and learning routines. 16 student maximum.

No experience necessary!

 

 


 

Woodworking Club

Students will work on items on their choice on an on-going basis. Most projects will require 3-4 sessions to complete. Limited to 12 students per session.

 

Latin Club

We will rehearse and perform a play based on ancient mythology.

 

 


Computer Homework Club

Mr. Fanning

The purpose of Computer Homework Club is to provide computer time

after school for students to complete assignments.

 

 


Best Buddies

Establish 1 - 1 friendships between students with intellectual disabilities and their peers.  We meet for fun activities such as ball games, arts and crafts, cooking, computers, and to just hang out and enjoy each other.

 

Art Club

The art club "open studio" provides students with an opportunity to work on their own projects and to participate in community service art projects.

 

 


“Careers in Nursing” club

the number of minority and disadvantaged students entering nursing. This grant, "Embracing the Challenge: Increasing Workforce Diversity in Nursing," is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

 

Yoga & Relaxation

Learn and practice: yoga postures, written mandalas, deep relaxation of mind and body (shivasana), and personal goal attaining skills.

Russian Club

The Russian Club is open to all students interested in learning more about Russian culture. We work together with the Russian Club from the High School , and have dinners together, watch Russian movies, do Russian crafts, play Russian games, and sample Russian food.  We also visit the local Russian stores. This year there will be 14 guests at the High School from Russia and they will join us in activities in the fall.

 

 

MathCounts

Tuesdays, Room C- 19

 MathCounts is a club for any student who enjoys math and likes to solve challenging math problems.  At MathCounts we spend time working on problems, discussing strategies for solving problems, and learning about new math topics that you may not have learned yet in math class.  In February, members of MathCounts will travel to a regional competition to compete against other middle schools.

 

Girls’ Eye View

GEV is a program that provides a supportive and creative atmosphere for girls to express themselves through photography and writing.

 

 

ELE Homework

Ms. Reyes

Students are welcome to drop in any time and get help with homework, projects, or practice and prepare for tests, quizzes, and oral presentations in a supportive and caring environment. Whenever possible, snack will be provided. Bring a friend and get to know students from different countries. It is not limited to English Language Learners.

A place for Bi and multi-racial students to meet, eat, play, share ideas and concerns, get informed, and support each other.


 


Engineering Contest Club

We'll be launching water rockets and zooming air powered cars.  We'll have a new contest every few meetings.
We will have short contests in the beginning (tower of spaghetti, etc) and expand to a solar car competition the final part of the year.
 20 student maximum.

                     

Esperanza

Esperanza is a student-run high school group devoted to improving the lives of the people of the Ecuadorian Amazon affected by oil contamination.

 

 


Latinos Unidos

Latinos Unidos will provide students with the opportunity to learn about Latin American history, heritages and cultures.
