Haitian Earthquake Resources
The tragedy that has befallen Haiti is beyond the scope of what many of us can imagine. What news there is paints a picture of devastation beyond comprehension in one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere. Due to the fact that virtually all forms of communication have been destroyed, many employees throughout the country that are of Haitian descent, or employees that have close friends in Haiti, are almost totally in the dark about the health and whereabouts of their loved ones, leading to fear and speculation.
Employers and coworkers need to understand that their affected colleagues may be suffering from signs of post-traumatic stress, such as:
- Crying at work
- Inability to concentrate
- Increased need to talk to others that are similarly affected.
- Becoming distant, irritable or irrational/emotional
If you feel like you need to speak with someone for support please visit the Wellness Employee Assistance website at www.wellnessworklife.com.
