Principal - Westland Hialeah Senior High School (formerly State School WWW )

Opened this new high school in the City of Hialeah during the 2007-2008 school year. The school serves a disproportionately high number of low socioeconomic, first generation-immigrant student population and community. Yet, in spite of cluster/trend data predicting the school to be one of the district's lowest performing high schools due to its low SES (67% of student body qualifies for Free/Reduced Lunch) and high ELL (English Language Learnersclose to 90% of the student body are or have been in the ESOUELL program) population, Westland was graded a "CO" by the Florida Department of Education and is considered to be one of the highest performing schools in the district and state when compared to schools with similar demographics and profile.
Regional Superintendent - Regional Center 1
September 2005 - September 2006
Had supervisory responsibility over the fifty-five (55) schools and 56,000+ Pre K-12 students in Regional Center I. Regional Center I consists of elementary, middle, K-8, senior, adult and alternative schools spanning across the cities, municipalities, and/or communities of Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens, Miami Lakes, Carol City, Opa-Iocka, Miami Gardens, Paim Springs North and the northern section of Unincorporated Miami-Dade County. Directly supervised and evaluated four (4) Regional Administrative Directors, and four (4) Instructional Supervisors, as well as the overall performance of all Regional Center I Principals and Assistant Principals. Upon completion of the 2005-2006 school year, seventy-one percent (71 %) of Regional Center I schools were graded "A" or "8" in a region predominantly consisting of English Language Learners (ELL) and Title I schools. Other highlights included:
- All K-8 centers (100%) increased student performance on the 2006 FCAT Reading and Mathematics
- All middle schools (100%) increased student performance on the 2006 FCAT Reading and Mathematics
- Eighty percent (80%) of the middle schools (8 of 10) increased student performance on the 2006 FCA T Writing+
- All middle schools (100%) improved their performance grade
- All high schools (100%) increased student performance on the 2006 FCAT Reading
- Eighty-six percent (86%) of the high schools (6 of 7) increased student performance on the 2006 FCA T Mathematics
- Sixty-three percent (63%) of the elementary schools (20 of 32) increased student performance on the 2006 FCA T Reading
- Sixty-six percent (66%) of the elementary schools (21 of 32) increased student performance on the 2006 FCAT Mathematics
- Eighty percent (80%) of all fourth grade students in Regional Center I scored 3.5 and above on the 2006 FCA T Writing+ (this was four percentage points above the State's performance)
- Seventy-five percent (75%) of all Regional Center I schools (38 of 51) increased the percentage of students scoring Level 3 and above on the 2006 FCAT Reading
- Seventy-three percent (73%) of all Regional Center I schools (37 of 51) increased the percentage of students scoring Level 3 and above on the 2006 FCAT Mathematics
- All middle schools (100%) decreased the percentage of students in all curriculum groups scoring Level 1 on the 2006 FCAT Reading and Mathematics
- All senior high schools (100%) decreased the percentage of students in all curriculum groups scoring Level 1 on the 2006 FCAT Reading
- Seventy-five percent (75%) of all Regional Center I schools (38 of 51) decreased the percentage of students in all curriculum groups scoring Level 1 on the 2006 FCAT Reading
Associate Superintendent - School Improvement and Educational Design and Development

Had supervisory responsibility over the thirty-nine (39) schools in the School Improvement Zone. Supervised and evaluated two (2) Assistant Superintendents, one (1) Curriculum Director and one (1) Business Director, as well as four (4) Instrudonal Supervisors. Reviewed the performance of all the Principals and Assistant Principals in the Zone. Participated in secondary restructuring efforts and reform initiatives, as well as provided assistance and support to all Zone schools.
Assistant Superintendent - School Improvement Zone
October 2004 - June 2005
Had supervisory responsibility over thirteen (13) schools within the Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior, Miami Central Senior and Miami Norland Senior High feeder pattems. Seven (7) of the thirteen (13) schools under his supervision improved at least one (1) letter grade during the 2004-2005 school year. Evaluated Principals and Assistant Principals, acted as line authority over these feeder pattem Principals and Assistant Principals, participated in secondary restructuring efforts and initiated curriculum reform, as well as provided assistance and support to the assigned Zone schools.
Principal - Miami Killian Senior High School
March 2003-October 2004
Had responsibility for the total operation of Miami Killian Senior High School. Improved Killian one (1) letter grade making him the only high school principal in the District to have improved one (1) letter grade of two different high schools (American and Killian). Additionally, Miami Killian Senior High came in first place districtwide of all non-magnet high schools in leaming gains for the 2003-2004 school year.
Assistant Superintendent - Human Resources and Staff Development

Oversaw Human Resources and Staff Development which included the following departments: Instructional Staffing/Certification, NonInstructional Staffing, Staffing Recruitment, Instructional and NonInstructional Training, Administrative & ProfessionalfTechnical Staff Development and Administrative & ProfessionalfTechnical Staffing. This office was responsible for the recruitment, processing and hiring of approximately 24,000 teachers and 50,000 full and part-time employees.
Principal - American Senior High School
July 1997 - May 2002
Had responsibility for the total operation of American Senior High School. Was instrumental in improving American Senior High one (1) letter grade and maintained it at that level from 2000-2002, until departure. Additionally, American Senior was recognized by the Task Force on Funding Public Education in Tallahassee as the best high school in the State of Florida in meeting the needs of low socioeconomic students, as well as, improved student achievement, without addtional funding.
Principal - W. R. Thomas Middle School
1996 -1997
As Principal of W. R. Thomas maintained the Florida Writes! scores above the District average and improved the 1997 Stanford Achievement Test scores in the Mathematics Applications and Science sub-tests by seven (7) percent and five (5) percent, respectively, compared to the 1996 Stanford scores.
Assistant Principal - South Miami Senior High School

During administrative tenure at South Miami Senior High was responsible at one time or another for the following areas: Activities, Adult Education, Appeals, Articulation, Athletics, Attendance, Clerical, Curriculum, Dade Partners, Discipline, Field Trips, Professional Orientation Program (P.O.P.), Parent-Teacher-Student Association (P.T.SA), School Advisory Council, School Improvement Plan, Student Handbook, Substitutes, Testing, Textbooks, and Youth Crime Watch. Also, was Assistant Principal for Curriculum during the 19951996 school year when South Miami was only one of three MiamiDade County high schools to meet the State's High School Comprehensive Test (H.S.C.T.) standards in both Mathematics and Reading Comprehension.
