Please note that the decision to close the schools is made by Superintendent Jere Hochman and is announced over local radio and TV stations, including WHMP (99.3 FM) in Northampton and TV Channels 22 and 40. Please listen carefully for the latest information. The Amherst School System also has a NEWSLINE (362-1898), which will carry announcements of school closings and/or delays due to poor weather.

Please do not call the school to see if school is canceled or dismissed early. If we must cancel school during the school day, we will need all available phone lines to call you and let you know what is happening.

We will call you at home or at work, and then (if we can not reach you) we will call the alternate numbers on your child's emergency card. If we can not reach anyone, we will follow the direction you gave us on the emergency card to either send your child home in his/her usual way or to keep your child in school until you are able to pick him/her up. Your child's emergency card provides the school with important phone numbers and addresses. Please make sure this card is kept up to date.

Lennie Ware makes the decision to cancel the after school program, and she has her own procedures.
