Construction of the Quabbin
The Quabbin was created for Boston’s water supply. Before they started construction, the Swift River Act passed on April 26th 1927. This Act gave them the money to create the Quabbin reservoir. In 1933 the aqueduct from Boston to the Quabbin was completed. The Hurricane of 1938 raised the Quabbin water by 15’ at the Winsor Dam on September 21 1938. A year after the hurricane, the Quabbin Reservoir started to fill. Then in 1941 the first water from Quabbin was sent through the Aqueduct to the Wachusett Reservoir. Even today the water from Quabbin is going to Boston through this aqueduct.
