History of Dana

            Dana is one of the four towns that were disincorporated during the building of the Quabbin. In 1801 Dana was incorporated and the first Town Meeting was held. In 1823 the Dana Post Office opened. In 1830 the population in Dana was recorded as 623. In 1835 the Flagg Tavern was constructed in Dana. In 1842 Dana added parts of Hardwick and Petersham to its town boundaries. In 1852 a Soapstone quarry opened in the northern section of Dana. In 1885 the Mount “L” Hotel was built in North Dana. In 1900 the population of Dana was 790. In 1901 the Dana Centennial was celebrated. In 1920 the population Dana was 599. In 1930 the population f Dana was 595. In 1935 the population of Dana was 387. In 1936 Dana was disincorporated. In 1988 there was a Dana Commemorative for the 50 years they were disincorporated.
