In 1816 Enfield is established. Some of Enfield was made out of Greenwich and other parts out of Belchertown. Later that year, Enfield held its first town meeting deciding that the town budget would be $1,666.67. In 1825 a minor manufacturing Co. begins making satinets ( A thin inferior satin or an imitation satin, especially one containing cotton) in Enfield. The population in 1830 was about 1,056. In 1832 Swift River Hotel is created in Enfield. The population became smaller in the year 1900 and was 1,036. The MA government decided that the towns were not to be self governing. The population continued to drop. In 1916 there were only 790 people, but that is not near as bad as in 1930 when the population was 497. About a year later there were 495 people. In 1935, all the factories in the Swift River Valley closed. Many houses were being moved, taken down or burned. One example of a building that was burned was the Enfield Congregational Church in 1936 which was an arson fire. People held a farewell ball for the town of Enfield in 1936. Enfield was a town that is now under the Quabbin. Although many people loved growing up in Enfield, it had to go.
