Prescott
In 1758- Conkey’s is built in what will become Prescott. (Pelham) Later in 1787- (Jan. 25th) shay’s Rebellion occured. This event was plotted in the tavern in the feature town of Prescott. After in 1822- (Jan. 28th) Prescott was incorporated. The next month on Feb. 28th the first town meeting was held. Four months later on June 18th the post office opened. Eight years later the population of Prescott was 758 people. Over ten years later on, Sept.19th, the North Prescott post office opened. In 1900 the population in Prescott was 380. In 1928 Prescott held its last town meeting. MDWSC assumed all control over the town. Going back a few years, in 1916 the population was 236 people. In 1924 – (Dec. 31st) Prescott post office closes, mail routed through Greenwich. 1930- Prescott’s population is 48. In 1935- the population becomes 18. 1936 (April 28th) Enfield, Greenwich, Dana, and Prescott are disincorporated . There was a farewell ball held at the Enfield town hall. In 1949 Prescott historical society purchases the Prescott Methodist church building from the state for five dollars. It is moved to Orange and restored. In October 17 and 18 of 1949 the Prescott Methodist church, which housed the Prescott historical society, is moved to Swift River Valley historical society in New Salem.
