Kindergarten

Teachers: William Lawrie, Sage Scott

I have been in education for 10 years. I worked as a paraprofessional for some years and found a true passion for Early Education when I was hired as a preschool teacher in Wisconsin. I have been teaching for three years at Pelham as the Kindergarten teacher and have had a wonderful time getting to know my colleagues and students. Teaching kindergartners to sing and love music is one of my favorite things to do. It allows me to be creative when teaching ELA and Math and it also allows kids to see that learning is an experience and not just using a pencil and paper. I appreciate the fact that the 5 year olds entering my classroom sometimes feel big pressures in life. Because of this, I’ve tried to design my classroom to be a place to learn their ABC’s and a safe place to understand and cope with strong emotions. Kids have a challenging time learning social/emotional and academic skills unless they know they are in a safe place to learn and express themselves. For this reason I have different spots in the classroom specifically developed for children to take care of and to feel proud of themselves.
