AMHERST SCHOOL COMMITTEE:
At the first regular meeting following the annual town election, the School Committee will elect annually a chair and vice-chair from its membership. The Committee will also elect a secretary who need not be a member of the Committee.
The Superintendent will be acting chair for the organizational meeting until the Chair is elected. Nominations for chair will be made by members of the Committee. A majority of the members of the School Committee constitutes a quorum. The chair will be elected by majority vote of the members present. If no nominee receives a majority vote, the election will be declared null and void, and nominations will be reopened. Upon election, the Chair will preside and will call for election of vice chair and secretary in that order. The procedure used for their election will be the same as for electing the chair.
Any vacancy among the officers occurring between organizational meetings will be filled by a member elected by the School Committee. The election will be conducted as described above.

REGIONAL SCHOOL COMMITTEE:
The organizational meeting for the election of officers will be the first regular meeting following the latest of the member towns’ annual elections and the selection of Regional School District representatives by the member towns.
The local School Committee of each member town will, within 10 days after each annual town election, select from its own membership the number of Regional School Committee members specified in the Regional School District Agreement. Two members of the Pelham School Committee, one member of the Leverett School Committee, and one member of the Shutesbury School Committee are selected by their respective School Committees to serve as members of the Regional School Committee. All five Amherst School Committee members serve on the Regional School Committee. Each selected member will become a member of the Regional School Committee on the day of his/her selection, and he/she will serve for the duration of the member’s term on the local School Committee, or until a successor has been selected.
