This Artifact provides evidence of the following Indicators:

Standard D.2:  Works to promote achievement by all students without exception.

 Introductory Statement

          The following is a letter I send home to each student's parents.  The letter communicates what I expect and how I would like to work cooperatively with the parents in their child's education.  They send it back to me with information to help me contact them via phone or email.  I usually assign this for a grade to motivate students to return it.

         This is one of many examples of how I strive to promote achievement without exception.  By involving the parents, students are not left to fend for themselves.  They have advocates and helpers throughout the whole year, and laziness is not an option.

 Reflective Statement

         I'm fortunate to teach in a community where most students expect to go to college.  However, there are always a few students that are a real challenge.  Raising the level of these students is a real challenge for any teacher.

           I am trying many different things to encourage students to achieve.  Letters home, posting grades, more exciting curriculum, etc. are all helping.
