Standard F.A.3: Geometry and Spatial Sense

 Introductory Statement

This activity, called "Pythagorean Proof," takes students step by step through a proof of the Pythagorean Theorem.  It asks critical thinking questions and leads students to developing arguments on their own.

In this activity, students will connect prior knowledge of area and measurement to the idea of proof.  They will develop their understanding of triangle geometry.

 Reflective Statement

I don't teach geometry currently, so it is difficult to implement it into my lessons.  However, I know that many of my students will move on to geometry, so I introduce them to quadrilaterals, triangles, etc using algebra.

Some things to work on are involving more proofs in algebra class.  They aren't in the curriculum, but they are important.
