This class is open to  Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors that have demonstrated music reading skills. Chords, scales, intervals, composing for one or two voices, ear training, elementary counterpoint and sight singing are the principle content of the first trimester, which builds from simple structures through increasingly complex techniques. In the second trimester, such topics as advanced harmonic structures and techniques, composition and analysis are considered. Any student considering further music study should take this course. The Advanced Placement Music Theory Exam is available to students who enroll in this class. Students interested in pursuing A.P. Music should do independent study in music history and advanced harmonic dictation.
