Project Challenge Course Description

Stretch . . . Grow . . . Achieve

We're looking for a few good students to make a leap.  Have you thought about taking tougher academics but might need some help?   Maybe you've done well in your classes but aren't sure if you can handle a more advanced level on your own.  Perhaps you're in an honors course but struggling more than your peers. Project Challenge may be the program for you!

Project Challenge is a mentoring program for Tenth Grade students who are ready to take the challenge of more rigorous course work.  Participating students meet all year, one period a day with their Project Challenge mentor and a small group of peers to work on class assignments and develop successful strategies for academic success.  Project Challenge particularly emphasizes personal responsibility and the skills of time management, goal setting and communication with teachers.  Project Challenge students also address the social, class and cultural issues surrounding students of color and "achievement gaps" in school.  Project Challenge mentors monitor academic progress and establish regular communication with parent/guardians and classroom teachers.

Most Project Challenge students are nominated for the program by academic teachers or counselors, but interested students and parents may request the course through guidance counselor without being nominated.  Candidates will be admitted to Project Challenge based on the number of available spaces and students' match to challenge profile.
